About Our Temple
The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple is situated in Mentakab, Pahang. In approximately 1925, there were around 100 families engaged in rubber tapping within the Mentakab plantation. Mr. Annamalai, a rubber tapper on the farm, reported witnessing a cluster of snakes, accompanied by the apparition of Dewi Amman seated upon this serpent mound. Sharing his account with others on the farm, several months later, numerous residents also started observing the shadow of Dewi Amman atop the snake mound. Responding to these sightings, they initiated efforts to cleanse the area around the snake mound and conducted prayer ceremonies, offering milk and eggs. In 1963, the plantation residents established a temple association, leading to the construction of a modest temple where they placed a statue of Goddess Amman for worship ceremonies. Subsequently, in 1980, the temple association decided to expand the temple and secured funds from local residents. The inaugural Khumbabishegam, a consecration ceremony, took place in 1983.
