About Our Temple

In 1978, Benedic Nair, the owner of Victoria rubber estate, discovered a valuable Silica stone while planting a new tree. Recognizing its high market value, Nair decided to establish a quarry on the estate. However, during the blasting operations, the explosives consistently failed to detonate. Perplexed by these incidents, the workers sought the guidance of a nearby priest. The priest conducted a prayer ceremony in the quarry, performing a dance reminiscent of the Serpent God and moving like a serpent towards the temple, the residence of Sapthakanniga Devi. Sapthakanniga Devi, the seven unmarried sisters of Lord Maha Mariamman, resided in the hill area, and Goddess Nagamma, manifesting through the priest, forbade the use of the hill as a quarry. When the quarry workers inquired about the proper way to pray, Goddess Nagamma, speaking through the priest, revealed that she would enter the dream of the late Ramachandran, one of the quarry workers. In his dream, seven women adorned as Devi instructed him on the prayers and the construction of Stobis, which are symbolic representations. Following these divine instructions, the quarry workers built the Arulmighu Maha Sapthakanniga Devi Temple, housing seven Stobis named Maha Brami, Maha Mageswari, Maha Kaumare, Maha Vaishnavi, Maha Varaghe, Maha Mahenderi, and Maha Samundesware. Despite the temple's construction, Victoria Estate persisted with quarry operations, resulting in substantial losses until the land was eventually auctioned by the bank.
