About Our Temple
Established in 1896 adjacent to the railway tracks on Jalan Bangsar Road in Kuala Lumpur, this temple was initially constructed to cater to the spiritual needs of the Tamil workforce, constituting about 80 percent of the railway administration at that time. The Sri Ramalingeswarar Temple was built by the railway administration in 1896 for the worship of these individuals. Devotees, showing deep reverence akin to the Rama temple, have been actively engaging in worship at this sAcred site. In 1968, a significant event took place with the Navgraha Kumbabhishekam at Jalan Bangsar. During the same year, recognizing the importance of the temple, a temporary temple committee was established, leading to the official registration of the temple. In 1974, the government decided to convert the Jalan Bangsar railway into a two-lane road, prompting proactive efforts by the then Minister of Transport, Tan Sri Datuk V. Manikavasakam, and parliamentary secretary, Datuk Encik C. Subramaniam. These endeavors resulted in the government allocating land within the Malayan Railway area. Thanks to the unwavering dedication of the temple president and management at that time, Lot 61 in the Malaya Railway reserve land, situated in the Jalan Marop area, was secured. Subsequently, a new temple was constructed on this allocated land. In 1979, the government contributed a grant of RM 100,000 for the construction of the temple. The foundation stone was laid in 1982, and by 1985, the construction was completed, culminating in the first Kumbabhishekam on March 24, 1985. The most recent Kumbabhishekam took place in 2012.
