About Our Temple
The renowned Sri Marathandavar Temple is situated in close proximity to Maran, Pahang. Devotees of this temple are widespread across Malaysia and Singapore. Every year, during March/April, hundreds of thousands of followers actively participate in the Panguni Uthiram festival. Over one hundred and twenty years ago, a peculiar incident unfolded during the construction of a road near the temple. A majestic tree, identified as a Rudraksha tree symbolizing the eye of Lord Shiva, began to bleed when it was being cut down. Despite the British officer's directive to continue felling the tree, a remarkable event occurred—a face suddenly manifested on the tree and then vanished. The tree was left untouched, prompting a deviation in the road construction. A Vel, planted by a monk in front of the tree, became a site for prayer. To this day, the descendant of the original tree is carefully preserved in a dedicated area within the temple premises, even though the original tree has perished. In 1988, a temple was constructed around the tree, and numerous Khumbabishegams, sAcred consecration ceremonies, were conducted.
