About Our Temple

During the 1920s, the Tamil community residing in the Berlong Valley tea plantations in Cameron Highlands dedicated their worship to Goddess Mariamman and Lord Muneeswaran as their protective deities. In the 1980s, the tea plantation underwent a change in ownership, prompting the Tamil workers to relocate to urban areas. The estate administration requested the temple administration to relocate the temple from the estate to a residential area. In the urban part of the city, there was already a Subramanian temple housed in a small shed. In response to the demands of the Tamil community from the estate, it was decided to move Goddess Mariamman and Lord Muneeswaran to this urban area. In 1970, the Sri Subramaniyar temple was established by merging Goddess Mariamman with the existing Lord Subrahmaniyar temple. Lord Muneeswaran was relocated to another part of the city and worshipped separately. With financial assistance from the temple management and devotees, the temple underwent a complete renovation in 1973, and a successful Kumbabhishekam ceremony was conducted. The Sri Balasubramaniyar Temple, combining the worship of Mariamman and Muruga, is now officially registered, and all religious ceremonies (pujas) are being conducted smoothly.
